Councillor Andrew Bond…Who’s That? It’s always a little bit alarming voting for someone to be your local Councillor that you have no idea about…but lets face it after recent events you can’t ever know someone 100 percent.I’d lie to feel I am more than a name on a piece of paper and at some point we have met face to face…as in fact I have been knocking on your doors in Gunthorpe since I was 16 years old. That’s coming up to 10 years. I have volunteered for the Gunthorpe Focus Team since I was 16 and I was elected in May 2016, so I often get asked if I am “the new one” but that’s not exactly true. ABOUT ME I was born in Peterborough City Hospital in April 1992, to my mum Sandra Bond (now) a very Active member of the Liberal Democrats and Prospective candidate for the 2018 local elections in Werrington; a very well known face in the community and my dad Robert Bond a Cheif Artificer in the Royal navy (now) a manager of several wind farms. I was the youngest of three, with my Sister Laura and our Elder Brother Chris. I attended Werrington Primary School and then Arthur Mellows Village College. I was very active as a child, I played football for a local football team (Abbey Athletic), a member of Rutland Sailing Club and attended the local beaver and cub packs. My favourite subject at school was most definitely History…my least favourite was Maths. My Brother Chris owns a Carpet Fitting company…which I worked for when I was younger. I went on to go to University at Plymouth after taking my A-Levels at AMVC. I took History and Politics and graduated with a 2.2 double honours. During my time at university I had a very close, supportive group of friends that I lived with and they became like Brothers to me. Although we have all lead our separate paths I am blessed to still call them my best friends. They definitely helped shape who I am today. I played american football whilst at uni. I support the Cowboys… and Everton.
Once leaving university I moved back home to Peterborough and began working for Vivacity at the Peterborough Museum and Longthorpe Tower. This was the perfect job for me due to my passion and interest in History. As a child my dad took me to many museums and I believe that you must stuy your history or your doomed to repeat it. My favourite era is the Napoleonic Wars and my favourite historic figure is Admiral Horatio Nelson…so much so one of my dogs is called Nelson (the other wellington in honour of the duke of wellington) My Sister has three Children, Alyce, Abi and Eden and my Brother has a little girl called Devon. I love each and every one of them equally; they are all growing up to be such individual girls; who are unique in their own ways and I am proud of who they are becoming and hope that I have influenced some of their traits. Politics I got involved in local politics because it focus’s purely on individual rather than politics and it allows me to really connect with residents and enables me to make a difference for residents. I first stood for the Lib Dems at the age of 18, I finally got elected at 24 in May 2016. Since being elected I have been responsible for many positive changes made in Gunthorpe. I am the prospective candidate for the Lib Dems for the upcoming 2018 local elections.
THANK YOU I hope this has given you more of an insight of WHO I am…but please get into contact if you’d like to know more. Getting to know my residents is very important to me and I hope that I will get to know each and everyone of you in my time as your elected councillor. So thank you for your continue support and positive response on the door. I am truly here to work for you, so any queries or issues you may have please get into contact.
