Runaway Horses…

If you follow me on Facebook you may have seen my many posts regarding #RunawayHorses in Manor DriveGunthorpe

Back in December last year I was out and about in the Ward- On my way through to Manor Drive I was shocked to see a Horse in the middle of the roundabout (along paston parkway). The poor Horse had managed to escape out of it’s field and managed to make it’s way into the centre of the roundabout. I was concerned for not only the Horses safety but also for the safety of the Drivers who were having to swerve and suddenly change their speeds to avoid causing injury to the Animal.

We managed to pull over safely (contact the police) and catch up with the horse who had been brought to safety by a fellow passerby and Gunthorpe Resident. The Horse was distressed, but luckily very friendly. A couple of residents joined and explained this is a regular occurrence. We managed to safely hand the Horse back over to the owner who assured myself and a fellow PCC officer that the Land would be secured.

However after posting this on my Facebook Page (Click Here To View Original Post)  I was extremely shocked with the response. Not only were the Horses clearly mischievous and escaping regularly; they are also regular visitors to residents front gardens in Manor Drive.  Residents explained that they regularly wake up to horses in their front gardens or outside their houses. Image waking up to a group of 3-4 horses on your front lawn?

Sadly, again, later in the month it was reported on Peterborough Today that the horses again escaped onto the A47. It is clear that these Horses are very cheeky and are finding ways to escape despite being kept in a secured field. The safety of residents and their children in Manor Drive is obviously my primary concern as well as drivers and the Horses themselves. Horses being loose on busy Peterborough roads could lead to the Horses lives being endangered; along with potential accidents and although the Horse I had the pleasure of rescuing had a friendly temperament; these horses will be scared.

Because of this I have reported this AGAIN to Peterborough City Council to look into what support can be given to secure the Land the Horses are kept on. But in the meantime please be extra vigilant and drive carefully and remember to look out for the #RunawayHorses.

  1. Hmm it appears like your blog
ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I
guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.

I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything.

    Do you have any points
    for novice blog
    writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.
