“We Feel Trapped in Our Own Homes”

by andrewbond on 19 February, 2017

Residents of Cleveland Court and The Pentlands Residents are seeing significant issues during school times; along with many other residents in Gunthorpe/Werrington and Peterborough.

As you all probably already know, I have been working closely with the Local Primary Schools to try and help tackle/ease the ongoing parking issues we have during Pickup and Drop Off times. After various Facebook Posts and Blog Posts (Click to Remind Yourself) I had been contacted by various residents of both of these streets and many others . The Residents are sadly being made to feel ‘Trapped’ in their own homes and fear for their safety ( in the case of an emergency) during these times.

After a recent assessment that took place in the streets surrounding; Gunthorpe, Norwood and Welbourne Primary Schools, it was unfortunately concluded that none of these streets were “Problem Areas”.

WHAT CAN BE DONE?

Cleveland Court and The Pentlands already have a “school timed no waiting restriction” (single yellow line) and therefore the only parking that should be taking place during these times is limited to Blue Badge holders only. Because of these there are no further parking restrictions that can be implemented along these streets to improve the situation.

However the residents are still faced with VERBAL ABUSE from the people which they politely ask to move from over their drive ways. These residents are unable to leave their homes during these times because other cars have blocked their cars in. Is this Fair?

Not only this but ;because of the illegal parking which is taking place along both streets, residents show great concerns that if an emergency service vehicle needed to access any of the properties in these streets that they would be unable to do so!

Because of this I have requested that the Fire Service attempt to conduct an access check one AFTERNOON. Once this has been carried out, I will update you all on the Findings.

NOTE TO PARENTS AND CARERS OF GUNTHORPE PRIMARY SCHOOL:
PARKING ALONG THESE STREETS DURING SCHOOL TIMES OR EVEN WAITING DURING SCHOOL TIMES IS NOT PERMITTED. THE REASONS FOR THIS IS FOR NOT ONLY THE SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN BUT ALSO FOR THE SAFETY OF RESIDENTS. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT WE PUT SAFETY and LEGALITY BEFORE CONVENIENCE. PLEASE TREAT THE RESIDENTS WITH RESPECT. IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHERE IT IS LEGAL TO PARK PLEASE CONTACT ME OR CLICK THIS LINK FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. THE SAFETY OFFICERS WILL CONTINUE TO ATTEND DURING THESE TIMES AND WILL ISSUE FINES TO PEOPLE WHO ARE PARKED ILLEGALLY.
